When to use it

Use soon after a debt collector first contacts you, especially before admitting, promising to pay, or sending money.

How to use it

  1. Send within 30 days of the first collection notice when possible.
  2. Do not admit the debt is yours in the letter.
  3. Ask for itemized proof and the original creditor details.
  4. Mail certified and save proof of delivery.
  5. Review the response before negotiating or paying.
